The gap Instinct 

1. Beware comparisons of averages. 
If you could check the spreads you would probably find they overlap. 
There's probably no gap at all. 


2. Beware comparisons of extremes.  
In all groups, of countries or people, there are some at the top and some at the bottom. The difference is sometimes extremely unfair. But even then the majority is usually somewhere in betweeen, right where the gap is supposed to be. 

3. The view from up here.  
Looking dow from above distort the view. 
Everything else looks equally short, but it's not.

People living in extreme poverty on Level 1 know very well how much better life would be if they could move from 1$ a day to $4 a day, not to mention 16$ a day.
